Parasitic-Power-Drain….or “What’s Zappening 2

I was running a little late to a dental appointment with kids in tow. A cold, windy drizzle hit me in the face and I hurried into the car. Seat buckles checked and engine cranked, we should have been on our way.

The engine did not turn over!  How could I have a dead battery?  I hadn’t left the headlights on. Sure this my car is older, but it’s not yet ready for the bone yard. Still this problem was annoying and needed to be solved.  The battery was newer and so was the starter. Something else was amiss!

Enough was enough!  My husband and I decided to actively start chasing down what he termed as ‘parasitic-power-drains”.  Okay.  The once-over in my car revealed  an intermittent fault that drew an excess amount of power from the battery.

Randy checked the interior, the glove compartment and trunk lights.  The engine compartment lamp or even a power window motor or radio antenna might be energizing when no one is around.  Finally, he found the culprit!  The interior light was not going off automatically as it should.  Problem solved.

My house also had some issues. It’s older as well, but it is still very nice.  Yet, my power bill seems inordinately high in the summer and winter months.  A bill for $400 has not been uncommon. Then there is the water. Higher water bills keep flooding in!  So now I am on a quest to look for ways to save.

This year, I noticed a difference in heat retention since our roof was replaced. Replacing some of my windows has also made a difference but the cold air still leaks through the ones in the back.

Since I work from home, I like to use a small heater in my office space.  Added to that a printer, a copier, two computers,a shredder, an overhead light, two desk lamps, a router, a fax, all sucking power.

Polyvinyl foam around the window frames and different window dressings helped the leaky windows.  Regular closing of all the shades and vertical blinds on windows and sliding glass door helped too.  That parasitic drain was blocked.

On my way to bed, I turned out the lights and 10 tiny pinpoints of green or red blinked in the darkness.  Yes, more parasitic-power-drains! These LED’s belonged to machines or appliances which, even when not is use, draw small amounts of energy.

The remedy?  Surge-arresting power strips!  Handy Randy to the rescue.  My husband made sure that my office machines, and other areas of the house, were routed to these special power strips.  When we are done, the whole strip gets turned off. No more parasitic power drain!  What a difference in the monthly bill!

All this got me to thinking. People get hit with “parasitic-power-drains” too.  So…..what’s ‘zapping’ you?

Are you leaking power?  Are problems or circumstances draining you?  The circumstance itself may not be the problem!

Be still and know that I am God….Be sober be vigilant….watch and pray….put on the whole armor of God….put off  the old man , put on the new…. Cast off…

Come to me all ye that labor….I am come that you might have Life…the enemy comes to steal kill and destroy…. put on the Mind of Christ…… Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life…….These are all part of God’s power-saving and energy plan.

But aren’t we connected?  You bet we are!  Television,  the internet, computers, laptops, hand held devices, i-pods, DVDs/CD’s, social media, cell phones, texting, DS for kids; all these assist and entertain us.  Meetings, kids’ activities, activism, volunteerism, eating out, entertainment and such consume us.

We are so busy and ‘connected’ that few people know how to deal with quiet.

Parasitic-power-drains come in droves.  Time to take inventory?  Ask God to reveal what needs to go. Restore peace.

Live a little longer.  Live a truly purposeful, effective life.  Remember, replacing the roof isn’t the only thing that helps.

It’s the little things.  Block those parasitic-power-drains!

Come On In 2

Come on in, take a chair
Here’s a place for you;   I want you there!
Friends are here- you know them, too
They arrived with Grace, and are waiting for you!
Relax a bit,  rest your heart
Release every care;  let worry depart
Peace and Joy, inside my home
Brought Comfort along; we’re never alone.

Faithfulness has made the tea
Meekness will serve you, the banquet is free
Come on in; let’s celebrate!
Gentleness will guide you to the dinner plate

So many friends, the Heavenly kind
They’re Strength and Hope and Peace-of-Mind
In your mouth, Praise so sweet
With upraised hands, The Son you’ll greet

Grateful heart, assurance clear
Stirs your worship for He is near
…and the BEST part?
His loving arms will pull you in
“Come back here soon,” He’ll say with a grin.
So, come on in, take a chair
Here’s a place for you;   I want you there!

When My Heart Hurts 2

When my heart hurts
Nobody can help
I can’t even hear what they are saying
Thoughts in my head, pound and pound
I only hope someone is praying

When my heart hurts
No medicine can cure
The darkness of soul, unprotected
Loneliness shrouds, silent and cold
I feel so lost and rejected

When my heart hurts
I must reach for the Light
And not wait ‘til I’m halfway oppressed
The Rod and The Staff, my comfort will bring
My heart and my spirit are blessed!

Just Too Much

                                              Just Too Much!
Just too much…
Too much garbage in our minds
Oh so much…
So much sin and junk we can’t get rid of.
So overwhelmed…
Overwhelmed and tyrannized by our emotions
Continually haunted…
Haunted by guilt and the scars of the past.
No Mercy…
No mercy or relief from our consciences
Emotion doesn’t protect
Emotion is not a safe place to store Assurance
Replace the garbage with God’s thoughts.
Pretty soon there won’t be any more room for the weeds to grow because we are tending a new and better crop! Old things have passed away and all things have become new.  God said it – he means it.  Take Him up on it.
The sin issue has been dealt with.
We don’t have to try to be absolved of sin. It is not our taskmaster any longer!!!  As sinners, we were full of guilt and hate. Jesus died and took care of that problem. Breathe easy.  It’s one foot in front of the other. Pretty soon sin won’t even be able to define us.  Freedom and Victory in Jesus will.
We are NOT our emotions
Job 15:12 sums it up in the NIV, “Why have your emotions carried you away? And why do your eyes flash?”  Why allow our emotions to define who we are?  Corral those emotions.  Don’t willingly give any place to the devil.  And while we’re at it,   let’s put a check on desire because  James 1:14 lets us know that we are  drawn away of our own lust and enticed……but that’s another subject!
God will give you mercy, your conscience won’t.
Guilt and inner wounds which came before we were raised to new life, must bow to the name of Jesus.   They MUST! That’s a reality.  Now it’s time to SET our thoughts and sights on the realities of heaven where Jesus sits at God’s right hand! We can meditate on and IMMERSE ourselves in the higher life and not get bogged down by the junk daily life throws at us. Where is our anchor? Our Assurance comes from above and doesn’t change with circumstances.
We ARE dead to this life and our real life is hidden with God in Christ Jesus.  It’s our move!  Just change the channel, so to speak.  We purposefully SET our affections on things above, not on things of the earth.  It’s not just a good idea, but it is God’s direction.  The Holy Spirit will help. Trust Him.  Christ is our Life.  Stay immersed. Watch what is let in from the outside.  WE have to be proactive and protect our spirits! WE have to be hot or cold.  Lukewarm doesn’t buy relief or progress.
There is no way we should judge our salvation by the past.
Only the present, demonstrates its reality!  In HIM we live and move and have our being!
We are in Him and there is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. It’s true!  The law of the Spirit-of-Life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of Sin-and-death.
Breathe in. The Holy spirit breathed life into Adam and He hasn’t lost His touch. We are free by The Word that is spoken.  It’s up to us to use That Word to stand fast therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free.
Watch out! Why?  So we don’t become entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Yes, there are roaring lions out there, but we refuse to be moved.  Words from an old hymn sum it all up quite nicely!
Jesus is my Savior,
I shall not be moved!
In His love and Favor,
I shall not be moved!
Just like a tree, planted by the water…
I shall not be moved.
And, that’s that!

Bragging Rights 2

That sound repeated itself over and over in the early morning.

It’s our little chicken’s way of bragging whenever she lays an egg!

She’s starting to molt and her eggs have been getting smaller and smaller! Yet, she “Bwak-bwaks” as if she was the goose that laid a golden egg!  Bragging rights, indeed!

Well, once she molts, I’m sure she’ll get back on track and all her squawking will actually mean something!

I find that there is a phenomenal amount of “Bwak-bwak!-buuuucking!!” coming from ever so-many people these days. Really – It’s everywhere….even the pulpit!

People are full of themselves, their take on God, their programs, the new way of worship, their way of building the perfect Mega-church, revelations, visions, on and on  – unashamedly so.  It’s mind-numbing!

While I rarely watch much television, I happened across a commercial for American Idol where my eyes and eats were severely assaulted by flashing frames of colorful performers who all believed THEY were the NEXT American Idol!  Yes, they all had the answer to what entertainment was lacking.  (Sure they did….)

The spot paused to feature the audition of one very colorful character.  Now, because I suffer from practically-perfect-pitch, my whole body rebelled at every note belted out by this contestant!  It was absolutely horrible!    Horribly – nauseating.  And that was being conservative . . .

The judges’ faces reflected evident distaste for this obvious lack of talent!  Unlike many instances, when the judges began expressing themselves they were actually trying to be kind.

The contestant wouldn’t hear it and flew into egotistical rage, all the while belligerently foaming at the mouth through seedy expletives!  Then it got ugly.  The judges went off!  She yelled back.

All I could think of was my chicken.   My poor little chicken wasn’t even aware that her eggs had become so small that they had nothing to offer.   But, after all, she’s only a chicken, lead by instinct.

There was no excuse for this individual, however.  Apparently, her self-focused, Bantum-sized brain, just wouldn’t allow her to hear the truth.  The judges were only trying to make some practical suggestions for her future.  Did she hear what they were saying?

Everyone tells me I’m good!” was one of her more civil retorts.

“Who is everyone?” asked one of the judges.

He alluded to the fact that whoever “everyone” was, they couldn’t have had much experience with talent, music or the industry in general.

“Bwak-bwak!-buuuuck—buck—buck-bwak-bwat!!”  The contestant flew into an aggressive backlash!

My funny-bone stirred and I couldn’t hear her words any longer.  The whole situation became too comical; like a stupid little chicken thrashing around making noise.

Appalled at her blatant ignorance, both my husband and I finally burst out laughing.   Some people just don’t know when to shut up!  They just don’t!

They think so highly of themselves that they will never be able to receive anything in the form of instruction or correction.  How limiting it is to have such a narrow axis around which one’s world must revolve!

Obviously, there has to be a guideline – a standard – and these Idol judges provided just that.

The contestant wasn’t content.  She was errantly convinced that SHE was the standard.  Such immodest, self-opinionated, narcissism!

The Bible tells us that we will hear a word behind us saying, “This is the way, walk ye in it.”  Instruction in Righteousness isn’t hard to come by.

What is tough though, is for God to find those individuals with “ears to hear”. A tender heart and a teachable spirit is also requisite.

Some people, having only heard part of the instructions, fly off with their own idea of what they think the Gospel should look like.

There’s the Ooey-Gooey Gospel where everything’s above love and feelin’ good.  There are conservative and liberal gospels.
There is also the Old-Tyme-religion, or the hell-fire-and-brimstone message…

Orthodoxy with changeless tradition coexists with Charismatic and Independent types.
Those heady Gnostic folks try to go neck-in-neck with the true Bereans.

“Bwak-bwak!-buuuuck!!”   Sounding brass and tinkling cymbals…..

Self-touting, American-Idol-mimicking displays of Christianity vex so many souls.

No wonder the un-churched choose to remain that way.  Who to believe? What is truth?

The bottom line is that truth is what GOD says it is – not what WE think it is.  My vote in the matter is that we put to death artificial, politically correct, feel good Christianity.  Let us conform our definition of the Christian life . . . . . to the Bible.

Narrow-minded?  I didn’t say it.  Jesus said the way is straight and the path is narrow.  He also said that few actually find it!

The Holy Spirit is our GPS  (God Positioning System).  He will bring us into all truth, that is, if only we will quiet ourselves down long enough to receive with meekness His engrafted Word!

Ouch!   No time like the present for me to join the inspection line!
